Gratitude, Resilience, and Alignment

This week’s study materials made me reflect on a few key themes that connect closely to both my personal life and business: gratitude, resilience, and aligning my work with what really matters to me. President Thomas S. Monson’s talk on gratitude reminded me that I need to pause more often and acknowledge the people and experiences that are helping shape this chapter of life. Between raising a family, running a business, and going back to school, it’s easy to get lost in the overwhelm. But I know I function better, mentally and emotionally, when I take a moment to really see what’s working, who is showing up for me, and how far I’ve come. In the business side of things, Stan Christensen’s message stuck with me. His point about not needing to have a perfectly mapped out career path resonated. I’ve pivoted several times in my professional life, and I often feel pressure to make it all look cohesive or impressive. But I’m learning to let go of that. I don’t need to chase titles or roles t...

Why Business Must Be About More Than Profit

Reflections on Charles Handy’s “What’s Business For?” Charles Handy’s article aligns closely with the values I’m building Nutritive Fitness on—prioritizing service and meaningful impact over just chasing growth or numbers. In a world where so many businesses focus solely on profits, Handy reminds us that there’s a deeper purpose to what we do. He makes a strong case that virtue and integrity aren’t optional extras in business—they’re absolutely essential for a healthy, functioning economy. He compares the economy to a machine, and virtue to the oil that keeps it running smoothly. Without trust, the whole system grinds to a halt. If customers, employees, and partners start to believe companies only care about their own gain, confidence breaks down quickly. We’ve all seen how damaging scandals and unethical behavior can be—not just for one company, but for the entire market. Trust is the foundation everything else is built on. Handy goes further to say that the real justification for...

My Attitude Toward Money

When I think about my attitude toward money, I have to admit: I really enjoy spending it. I love being able to say yes to things that make life fun—whether that’s treating my family, traveling, or just not stressing over every little purchase. But I also know I have work to do when it comes to being more responsible, eliminating debt, and building real financial freedom. I dream of reaching a place where I have enough financial excess to give generously, both when there’s a need and just for the joy of it. How fun would it be to pay for my whole extended family to go on a cruise together!? I’m definitely more relaxed than I should be about aggressively earning or saving money. My husband has always made sure our finances are stable, covering our needs and many of our wants. Now that I’m not needed at home with little kids as much, I have more time and flexibility to help our family become even more secure. That’s something I’m excited to focus on. My view of money definitely affects th...

Feeding the Right Wolf and Building a Braver Business

I’ve been thinking a lot about how fear keeps me stuck. Jim Ritchie’s story about the two wolves—the good one and the fear-driven, destructive one—has really been echoing in my head. If I’m honest, I’ve definitely been feeding the wrong wolf. I can see how much hesitation and overthinking have held me back from moving NutriThrive Fitness forward. I know I want to grow, but I’ve been so afraid of messing up or failing that I haven’t taken the next steps. When the semester started, I had no idea how much time school would take. Cutting my client hours down to four a week was the right move, but now, with only four weeks left in the semester and a lighter load coming up, I feel this urge to step back into growth. I want to stop feeding the fear wolf and start nurturing the one that thrives on courage and purpose. The truth is, I already have good systems for serving my clients. What I don’t have are systems for consistently bringing in new clients and building the business. I keep putting...

Small Acts, Big Impact – Lessons from This Week’s Learning Journey

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about how the small things I do each day play an essential role in my efforts to grow NutriThrive Fitness. The stories from Chapter Two of A Field Guide for the Hero’s Journey hit me in a deeper way when I thought about them through the lens of entrepreneurship and growing my business.  I loved the story “Do What You Can” about the raindrops! Two tiny raindrops decided to help save a dying cornfield, and that small act inspired other raindrops to join in, eventually saving the crop. It made me realize that I don’t need to wait for the “perfect” conditions to build NutriThrive Fitness into something impactful. Sometimes it’s the simple things—one social media post, one client connection, one honest conversation—that can spark momentum. I don’t have to launch something huge right away; I just have to keep showing up, doing what I can, and trust that small efforts will compound over time.  “The Lion and the Mouse” reminded me that I don’t need ...

Don’t You Quit – The Message I Needed This Week

This week has been brutally hard.  I’ve felt discouraged, overwhelmed, and exhausted—so much so that I’ve questioned why I even went back to school in the first place.  I’ve been juggling motherhood, school, and my growing business, but lately, it’s all felt heavier than I can carry. Summer has stretched me to my breaking point. My kids are out of school, and the weight of my responsibilities feels like it’s pressing down on me from every angle. To make matters worse, I ran out of my ADHD medication this week. A perfect storm of pharmacy delays and timing left me without the blessed little pill that helps me find focus in the middle of chaos. Every task felt harder. Every assignment required ten times the effort. My mind was foggy, distracted, and on edge. I’ve had to claw my way through each day without that extra support, pushing myself in ways I didn’t think I could. The mom guilt hit hard too. My youngest son, Max, is seven. My middle son, Ezra, is fourteen. They’re in ver...

Visualizing Victory: How I’m Training My Mind to Build My Mission

I want growth. Growth in my business. Growth in my family relationships. Growth in my education Growth in my ability to help women apply the science—how muscles function, how the body burns fat, and what truly supports mental wellness. At the heart of it all? A growth mindset. This week, while studying  The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People , I realized that the first step toward any real transformation begins with how I think. My mindset is the starting line. For years, I’ve tiptoed around the grander possibilities for NutriThrive Fitness—afraid to dream  too  big, afraid to disappoint myself, afraid to fail publicly.  But I am reminded that I was blessed to have a face-to-face conversation with Sister Elaine S. Dalton, one time, where she reminded me that "Fear and Faith cannot dwell in the same place." Of all the 7 habits, Habit 1:  Be Proactive  kindled a fire. It's pretty wild that we, as humans, are the only creatures capable of reflecting on our ow...
